Old Time Tube Collections

Old Time Tube Collections

Just a small sample of pictures from old time tube collections.

The above is an early picture of the Arthur Larson tube collection. Arthur was a patent lawyer but that is not to say all these examples were involved in patent litigation, but some may have. Authors scan from the former Tyne/Vanicek collection.

Click all pictures below 1 or 2 times to enlarge.

Fig’s 1 – 8 are from the lost Joseph D’Agostino lost collection.

Fig. 1 Unknown source picture of D’Aostino, on the right, explaining a tube to an unknown collector.

Fig’s 2 & 3 are 2 scans I made of pictures Jerry Vanicek had of the D’Agostino collection.

Fig’s 4-7. Fig. 4 is a scan of the cover page Jerry made for a presentation he sent to Ludwell Sibley to appear in the August, 2000 Tube Collector magazine. Fig’s 5-7 is what appeared in the Aug., 2000 tube Collector.

Fig. 8 is an unknown set of articles featuring D’Agostino and the work he did while working for RCA television division for the 1939-1940 world’s fair in New York City.

The picture above shows the Peter Kalus collection. I scanned this from the former Tyne/Vanicek collection of photos. I believe Peter was also a patent lawyer.

Fin Stewert and Jerry Vanicek both wrote articles on Howard Schrader that are shown above. They appeared in the April, 2000 TCA magazine.

This article would not be complete without mentioning the Eaton collection. See the complete article here: https://vacuumtubearchive.com/eaton-us-navy-tube-collection-last-word/

The article above was from the former Tyne/Vanicek paper collection and appeared in the December, 2002 TCA magazine and is another collection lost to time!

Al Jones started the TCA magazine in 1999. Bob Deuel was the Secretary-Treasurer, Editor was Ludwell Sibley, and Phillip Rheinscihld was the webmaster. The advisory board consisted of Jim Cross, Bro. Patrick Dowd, Phillip Rheinschild, Jerry Vanicek, and John Walker. In 1996, John Staples, a charter member of the Tbe Collectors Association, taped Al Jones talking about his collection. With permission, John has agreed to allow this author to include his YouTube video link to be included here: https://youtu.be/V0UJj4hpAyg

I should guess that Floyd Jury, above, set up this display of Taylor tubes for a meet but I do not know where. It is just a small part of his collection.

This author took the 20 pictures above of the former Tyne/Vanicek collection. They represent a small portion of the thousands of tubes available to be photographed. I was able to purchase around fifteen or so and will always be grateful for that opportunity. 2 of the group I purchased are pictured in Tynes book we all know.

I hope to add more as my requests for collection pictures come my way!
