Early Wireless

This postcard was conceived by prominent artist Charles Allen Gilbert(1873-1929) around 1909 and his female subjects called “Gilbert Girls” appeared in hundreds of magazines, etc., around the country. I have seen this same subject in a full sized framed calender as well with smaller tear-off days and months at the bottom for the year 1910. Of course, the CQD was an early form of maritime comunication for ships in trouble and was eventually repalced, after the Titanic sinking in 1912, by the universily accepted SOS.
